Malaysia Week 2012

This year was really special for me.  That was because I had my first Malaysia Week and I was looking forward to it since I got in to grade 6.  Finally I could go to the Malaysia Week, Kuala Kubu Baru, and I had so much fun there.  In this fun KKB trip, I have learned four SLRs which were Learning Enthusiastically, Collaborate Constructively, Think Creatively and Communicate Effectively.

I learned enthusiastically on how to live in the jungle.  This trip was the first time for me to live in a tent and to sleep in the tent and was really amazing!   I learned how to live in the jungle enthusiastically even though it wasn’t as comfortable as living at home.  Also, I could learn how to cook because I was in the cooking group.   I was really proud of my mom when I got back home because I learned how hard  cooking is and my mom is doing that everyday.  I used to think that cooking would be impossible for me, but now I think it isn’t that bad.  I collaborated constructively with my friends when we were rafting down the river.  I could learn from this activity that collaborating constructively is really fun.  There were four people on the boat and 2 people were sitting on each.  When we wanted to go to one direction, one side had to paddle harder.  I thought creatively when we were doing tubing.  I had to think when I was riding on it because it was really hard to change direction, go backward or go forward.

After writing this, I realize that I have learned a lot of things in Malaysia Week.  For example, I learned how to communicate with people over this Malaysia Week.  Also, I will keep in mind that cooking takes effort and I can’t waste food. Even though I am learning, I felt I played and had so much fun.  I think that Malaysia Week is really helpful for students to learn enthusiastically and we could make many happy memories together. As I said in KKB, I could Learning Enthusiastically, Collaborate Constructively, Think Creatively and Communicate Effectively.

Final Blogpost ~ Utopia Unit

You have now become Will , you are triumphant and have reached the White Mountains. You decide to write a letter to your family and the citizens of Wherton telling them about your journey

Dear Mom, Dad and People in Wherton
Hello!  How are you doing?  I am doing really well.  I hope you are safe and peaceful.  I am guessing that you people are worrying about Henry and I.  We left this city because we wanted to survive.  We only had one choice so that we could avoid the tripod by going to White Mountain.  After we left Wherton, there were lots of things happening to us..  We thought and planned to defeat tripod and finally, at the end, we could kill it!
Here is what happened.  As I said, Henry and I left Wherton because we wanted to be free.  We knew that capping is a bad thing to do and we wanted to avoid it.  After we left Wherton, we decided walk about two days to go to the city called Rumney.  After we felt tired of walking, we sneaked onto a ship that we found and we could go to one city in France.  In the ship, we met the boy named Bean-pole and he decided to join us to go to the White Mountain.  It was easy for us because we could divide the jobs and each job was smaller.

After that we met the woman called Comtesse and she knew every plan that we had which Henry and I pretended that we were deaf and couldn't hear anything.  That time I felt myself become sick, and Comtesse's beatiful daughter nursed me and got better.  Since we were near together for long time, we have made a deep friendship and I started to fall in love with her.  I told Henry and Beanpole that I will catch up with them later.    I just wanted to stay with her longer and make her as the queen in the tournament.  At the same time, the city was having a tournament and the rule was to choose the most beautiful girl in the city and she will be the queen.   Luckily Eloise was the queen and she was really excited to leave the city and be served to the Tripod.  But I was really anxious about leaving her to go to the unknown machine alone.  When she left, I quickly changed my mind and caught up with Henry and Beanpole.  On the way, I went pass next to the tripod and he noticed it.  He grabbed me and I thought that I was being capped but luckily I wasn't.  When I met them, I tried to act normal and didn't say anything about the tournament.  At that time, we saw tripod more often and we sneaked away as tripod found us.  We notice that the same tripod is always following us and we didn't know why.

When we were walking to the White Mountain, Henry noticed that something was sticking on my armpit.  It was made out of metal and I realize that this is from the tripod when it grabbed me.  It was dangerous because it could tell where we were so Beanpole had to cut it off.  It hurt me a lot but we had to do it to survive.  Using this metal, we could use it as a decoy and we finally defeated one tripod!!!

I've learned lots of things in this trip with my friends.  Of course, I have learned a lots of other things like survival skills.   But the biggest thing was that if I put effort in, I can do anything whatever I want.  This trip was to not be capped by the tripod.  We worked and thought and planned to defeat it.   I did everything that I could do and we are free now!!!   Mom and dad, I think you were sad that I left Wherton without having any permission and even say goodbye.  But I hope that you will understand from this letter.  I want to see you!! Come and visit me soon in THE WHITE MOUNTAIN!!!

Best Regard,
Will

Utopia~ Blogpost #2

How will Beanpole help Will and Henry on their journey to the White Mountains ?

Beanpole, Zhan-pole, is the boy that Will and Henry met in the middle of their journey.  He is tall and thin with his strange metal glasses and Henry and Will started to call him Beanpole.  I guess he will be helpful in Will and Henry's Journey and I am going to explain why.
The first big reason is because he can speak  the local language.  They had struggled with the local language which they can't speak.  Maybe Beanpole can help when they don't understand what the locals are saying and he can translate it to English.  Also, when they have to complain about something, he can translate it to the local language.
The second reason is because of his height.  The end of the chapter 5, says that he is tall.  Maybe he can help to get something on the higher place that he can't reach.  The third reason is because I thought that it might be better going with three person rather than going with two person.  When they are lost on the way, it might be more reassuring  than having one less person.
These are the reason why I think Beanpole will be helpful to them.

Utopia Blogpost #1

write a brief 3 paragraph blog post answering the following question:

How is Will just like you?

Will and I are very similar in many ways.   Firstly, Will and I have two parents and we are the only child.  Secondly, Will and I are both teens and have curious personality.  This can be seen when Will is looking at his dad's precious watch that he is not supposed to be looking or touching.  He is so curious that he took the watch and put it on.  As for me, I show my curiosity by wanting to know everyone's secret.

I have similar friendships.   For example, Will's cousin Henry is evil and aggressive.  One of my friends is just like Henry in that he bullies people and steals.  On the other hand, Will's other cousin Jack is nice and treats people fairly.    I have a friend that is similar to Jack in that he is a peace maker.  Whenever he sees a fight, he is the first one to break them apart.

Will and I are both adventurous.  Will displays this by going to the town with his dad's watch on. Another example would be when Henry and Will goes to the white mountain.  I am adventurous in that I travel and explore different cultures in different countries.  Will and I are both helpful and caring.  This can be seen when Will tries to be friend with Jack even though he has been capped and being mean.  I am helpful in that I help my parents with chores.  In conclusion, as stated above, Will and I are similar in many ways.

Ancient Egyptian iMovie Reflection

1.The benefits of working with a classmate / or alone.
2. Challenges / obstacles which you overcame (tried to overcome).
3. New understandings that you gained about yourself.

The benefits of working with my partner, Taighe, was that it was much easier for me to make the imovie script. Since I can't write English fluently, he helped me with my grammer and it was really helpful.  Also, when we were researching about Khufu, two people made it faster than doing it alone.  It was easy for recording too because I didn't have to read a long paragraph.

I had a hard time with my English when we were recording.  I didn't know a lot of words and I had to read it fluently.   I practiced at my house and when we were recording,  I focused and focused because I don't want to make our grade go down because of my low English skills.   I think I did well on this and hope that we got a good grade for this.  Also, I was worrying a lot about how much time we had left because we took too much time for the researching part so when we were done with the researching, everyone was already done with making their script.  I was panicked but as a homework, we worked hard making our script complete and we could catch up with everyone else.

I learned a few things in this project.  Of course, I learned a lot about ancient Egyptian and Khufu.  But also, I have learned that I will be working fast with my partners.  I can work faster than working alone because working with partner is much more fun than working alone.

City Connections Reflection

In your blog, please reflect on the following (in paragraph form ~ remember to include examples and explanations to support your facts):

1) What you believe you did well on the project?
2) What you would improve for future presentations/projects?
3) What did you learn from your preparation (for your presentation) in addition to the presentations of others?
4) What is your analysis of your performance?

I believe that I did well on environmental factors.  I made 3 environmental factors, water, topography and vegetation, in 3 slides so that other people can see it clearly.  But since I made it in 3 slides, I had to write about this much longer.  I looked for good sites that shows a lot about Tokyo's environmental factors and finally I could have a lots of facts.  I also made the graphic slides on each of these environmental factors slides because I thought that it will be clearer than making the graphic as a background.

I think I would search and look at more sites so that my presentation will look more neat and concise.  I made this presentation in about 3 hours which is really fast.  I think I should take more time looking for facts.

I have learned a lots of new interesting facts about Tokyo.  For example, I learned that Tokyo’s government was formed by Tokugawa Ieyasu 400 years ago.  Also, I was surprised at Tokyo’s topography. I learned that Tokyo has got a lots of mountains.  I learned new things from my friends too.  From Huy, I learned that Japan took over Vietnam in 1940.  From Swawal his city, Shah Alam, wasn’t discovered by anybody. It was a planned city.  All of their slides were interesting as well as informative.

I think that I did a good job on this project.  As I said in 2nd paragraph, if I had taken more time making this project up, my project would be better.  I also think that I needed to slow down a bit while giving my presentation so that my friends could understand it more clearly. Aside from these points, I think it was good.
